Am I Old Enough To Be A Mother?

For anyone that knows me, they know that I talk to my mom every day. She knows to expect my call after I've dropped off the kids at school, and we chat about anything you can imagine - the kids, how our evening was, weekend plans, what we're wearing today, work stuff (oh yeah, she's also my boss), you name it. I go to my mom for everything. And I mean, EVERYTHING. And then there are the adult things that I feel like I should know, but still have to ask my mom. "How many exemptions do I list on my W-4?" "How much should I contribute to my 401K?" "How do I use my broiler?" Like, how am I even a mom myself?! I expect my kids will ask me these questions one day, and I'll have to be like, "let's call Nana." (I'm not going to get sad and morbid and think about the day that she won't be here to answer my million questions) But seriously, how am I even allowed to adult right now?!

The other day, I was visiting with a work vendor, and she asked if all 3 kids in my back seat were mine. When I said yes, she said, "are you even old enough to have that many kids?!" I replied, "I suppose so." She made a comment to how good I look (wow, thanks - hooray for Asian genes), but the real truth behind it all is, no, really, how am I old enough to be responsible for other small humans? I feel like I know nothing about life.

I guess I'm glad there's no mom test you have to take before you're allowed to have kids. I would've totally aced the "Do Everything With One Hand Because You're Carrying A Baby" test, but would have failed miserably at the "Plan Your Kids' College Fund" exam. I can dress a baby and prepare a bottle with one hand like a bad mo-fo, but I know nothing about pensions, stocks, bonds, or taxes. So, thank goodness for moms, or any friends or family members that are great resources. Use them wisely...and make sure your kids are paying attention to the answers, so they don't suck at adulting when they're of age.
